Honduras El Puente Geisha

Honduras El Puente Geisha is an exceptional coffee that made history in 2016 at the Cup of Excellence competition, scoring 91.7% and selling for $120 per pound at auction. The farm owners, Marisabel and Moises, have been growing coffee together for over 25 years at an altitude of 5,000 feet in the Marcala region.

To ensure top quality, they pay their local pickers extra to select only the ripest cherries, which are immediately sorted into separate bags. After harvesting, the coffee is slowly dried on raised African beds near the owners' house, where the dry climate creates perfect conditions. They use a modern eco-friendly pulper that saves up to 70% of water during processing.

El Puente Farm spreads across 36 plots, surrounded by tall, shady pine trees. A small river runs through the mountainous terrain, crossing under a bridge that gave the farm its name ("El Puente" means "The Bridge" in Spanish). Here, where the air is filled with the sweet scents of jasmine and orange blossoms, the coffee trees are planted more than three feet apart to ensure healthy growth and protect against disease.

The farm's crown jewel is "Moises's Garden of Eden" - an experimental area where the owner grows rare, almost forgotten coffee varieties in special greenhouses. Here, he studies how temperature, wind, minerals, and soil affect plant development.

When brewed, this coffee reveals notes of fig, honey, and milk chocolate.
